The mass spectra of 17 haloquinoxalines I (R-R3 = H, Br, Cl, Me) were recorded. All I gave mol.-ion peaks with typical isotopic ratios. The fragmentation path depended on the position of the halo atom: pyrazine-bound halo derivatives fragmented primarily via elimination of a halogen radical with insignificant cyanogen halide elimination, whereas benzene-bound halo derivatives fragmented via successive elimination of 2 RCN mols.
