Compound 18 (3.2 g, 0.02 mol) was dissolved in 250 mL ethanol. To the solution was added freshly prepared N-tert-butyl-hydroxylamine (2.67 g, 0.03 mol). The reaction was allowed to proceed for 4 h. After the workup, solvent was removed in vacuo and the crude product was purified by column chromatography (petroleum ether/ethyl acetate 4:1) to afford compound 19 as a red solid, (3.49 g, 75.2% yield), mp: 88-89 C. 1H NMR (CDCl3): 1.70 (s, 9H), 7.77 (m, 2H), 8.03 (m, 2H), 8.14 (s, 1H), 10.49 (s, 1H).
