The PtCl2-catalyzed reactions between indoles and ethyl propiolate gave rise to mono and double addition products. The composition of the products was largely influenced by the substituents on the indoles as well as the amount of ethyl propiolate used. o-Alkynylanilines reacted with ethyl propiolate and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate under the catalysis of PtCl2 to generate the corresponding 2,3-disubstituted indoles. The reaction proceeded by following a sequential cyclization/intermolecular addition pathway.

Graphite-Conjugated Acids Reveal a Molecular Framework for Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer at Electrode Surfaces

Proton-coupled electron-transfer (PCET) steps play a key role in energy conversion reactions. Molecular PCET reactions are well-described by “square schemes” in which the overall thermochemistry of the reaction is broken into its constituent proton-transfer and electron-transfer components. Although this description has been essential for understanding molecular PCET, no such framework exists for PCET reactions that take place at electrode surfaces. Herein, we develop a molecular square scheme framework for interfacial PCET by investigating the electrochemistry of molecularly well-defined acid/base sites conjugated to graphitic electrodes. Using cyclic voltammetry, we first demonstrate that, irrespective of the redox properties of the corresponding molecular analogue, proton transfer to graphite-conjugated acid/base sites is coupled to electron transfer. We then show that the thermochemistry of surface PCET events can be described by the pKa of the molecular analogue and the potential of zero free charge (zero-field reduction potential) of the electrode. This work provides a general framework for analyzing and predicting the thermochemistry of interfacial PCET reactions.

Synthesis, structure and binding properties of a series of dissymmetric resorcin[4]arene-based cavitands

The synthesis of four new dissymmetric cavitands is reported. These deep-walled receptors are constructed from a resorcin[4]arene scaffold bearing anti-disposed quinoxaline substituents, with either N-haloalkyl-diazaphthalimide (1), dinitrophenyl (2) or diaminophenyl (3) moieties as the other wall components. The structure and inclusion properties of 1 and 2 have been probed in solution by NMR spectroscopy and notably in the solid-state by X-ray crystallography. The diazaphthalimide-based compounds 1 crystallise as 1:1 host-guest complexes with chloroform, with the resorcin[4]arene scaffolds adopting pinched cone conformations. Conversely, the dinitrophenyl-variant 2 features a more open, symmetric structure in the solid-state and co-crystallises with two acetone molecules within the central cavity. Preliminary binding experiments in mesitylene-d12 at 303 K demonstrate 1 (Kapp = 5 ¡Á 102 M?1) and 2 (Kapp = 2 ¡Á 102 M?1) are effective hosts for cyclohexane guest molecules in the absence of competitive solvent inclusion.

Part I: Synthesis, cancer chemopreventive activity and molecular docking study of novel quinoxaline derivatives

The reaction of o-phenylene diamine and ethyl oxamate is reinvestigated and led to 3-aminoquinoxalin-2(1H)-one rather than benzimidazole-2-carboxamide as was previously reported. The structure of the obtained quinoxaline has been confirmed by X-ray. The anti-tumor activity of synthesized quinoxalines 1-21 has been evaluated by studying their possible inhibitory effects on Epstein-Barr virus early antigen (EBV-EA) activation induced by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13- acetate (TPA). Among the studied compounds 1-21, compounds 12, 8, 13, 18, 17 and 19, respectively, demonstrated strong inhibitory effects on the EBV-EA activation without showing any cytotoxicity and their effects being stronger than that of a representative control, oleanolic acid. Furthermore, compound 12 exhibited a remarkable inhibitory effect on skin tumor promotion in an in vivo two-stage mouse skin carcinogenesis test using 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) as an initiator and TPA as a promoter. The result of the present investigation indicated that compound 12 might be valuable as a potent cancer chemopreventive agent. Moreover, the molecular docking into PTK (PDB: 1t46) has been done for lead optimization of the aforementioned compounds as potential PTK inhibitors.
